Everything you need to know about enrolling, paying tuition, and attending classes at Heikura Dance School.
Enrollment
How do I enroll?
Enrollment is completed online. You must submit a signed Participant Agreement and pay your first month's tuition in full. Enrollment is considered complete only when both are received.
Is there a waitlist?
Yes. Classes have limited spots. If the class you want is full, you can be placed on a waitlist. Spots open when current participants withdraw or forfeit their enrollment.
What age groups do you accept?
Starting October 2026, we offer four classes: Awapuhi (ages 3–7, co-ed class); Opuhi (ages 8–13, girls class); Ula (ages 8+, boys class); Teuila (ages 14+, girls class). Contact us if you're unsure which class is right for you.
Do existing students need to re-enroll for October?
No. We will transfer existing students to their October classes without another enrollment form or $25 enrollment fee. Existing Mākua subscriptions change from $60 to $50 with the October payment.
Do I need prior dance experience to enroll?
No prior experience is required. Each class welcomes students learning Polynesian dance and helps them build cultural understanding, confidence, and technique.
Can a parent and child enroll together?
Yes. A parent and child can each enroll in the class that matches their age and class track. Ula (boys ages 8+) and Teuila (girls ages 14+) include both youth and adult students.
Tuition & Payments
How much is tuition?
Starting October 2026, monthly tuition is Awapuhi $45/month, Opuhi $50/month, Ula $50/month, Teuila $50/month. Each class meets once a week.
When is tuition due?
Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. There is a grace period from the 1st to the 5th. If payment is not received by the second class of the month, your spot may be forfeited.
How do I pay?
All payments must be submitted online through the Heikura website. We do not accept cash or checks. You can set up automatic payments for convenience.
Can I pay quarterly or annually?
No. Heikura does not accept bi-monthly, quarterly, or annual payments. Tuition must be paid monthly.
Are there any other fees?
New enrollment includes a one-time $25 fee per student, plus applicable tax. Existing students transferring to the October classes do not pay this fee again. Monthly tuition is the only recurring fee. Additional costs for costumes or performance materials (if any) will be communicated in advance.
Refunds & Pauses
Can I get a refund if I have to miss classes?
No. All tuition payments are non-refundable. Refunds are not issued for illness, voluntary withdrawal, scheduling conflicts, behavioral dismissal, or missed classes.
What if I need to pause enrollment?
Temporary pauses may be considered on a case-by-case basis. You must submit a written request and discuss it directly with Heikura management. Pauses under two consecutive months may be approved at Heikura's discretion.
What happens if I'm absent for more than two months?
If your absence exceeds two months, your spot will be released to a waitlisted student. To return, you must reapply and may be placed back on the waitlist.
Classes
What happens if a class is canceled?
If a class must be canceled due to a holiday or emergency, a recorded class video will be posted in the class group for participants to review and practice independently.
What should my child bring to class?
Youth participants should bring a folder with papers, colored pencils, and a water bottle. Adult participants should bring a notebook, pencil, and water bottle. Failure to bring required materials may limit participation in cultural portions of class.
What does a typical class look like?
Each class covers cultural education and dance training in Hula Hawai'i, ʻOri Tahiti, and Siva Samoa. Starting October 2026, class lengths are 45 min for Awapuhi, 60 min for Opuhi, 60 min for Ula, 60 min for Teuila.
Are classes appropriate for non-Polynesian students?
Absolutely. Heikura welcomes students of all backgrounds. Our classes teach cultural respect alongside technique, so every student gains a meaningful, authentic experience.
